L'étang de s'y mettre

Acting for the environment around the Berre lagoon

Our "L'étang de s'y mettre" project brings together our environmental actions around the Berre lagoon, in favour of marine biodiversity. The objective is to find solutions to improve the quality of the Berre lagoon's marine ecosystems. It brings together several citizen initiatives:

  • replanting of seagrass beds in the lagoon;
  • reintroduction of flat oysters, also ecosystem engineers;
  • A floating reef, an oasis of life in a barren zone of the Berre lagoon;
  • creation of two laboratories for seagrass cultivation;
  • waste collection and plastic pollution removal along the shoreline;
  • a public Fablab (Fabrication Laboratory) for designing technical tools in favour of ecosystems and the environment;
  • Manufacture of citizen air and water quality monitoring sensors;
  • educational workshops to promote our actions and raise public awareness of positive environmental gestures.

The project name is a play on words combining "il est temps de s'y mettre" (it's time to get on with it) and "l'étang de 6 mètres" (the average depth of the Berre lagoon is around 6 metres).
